In 1824, Great Britain and Holland sign the Anglo-Dutch Treaty.

Under the terms of this treaty:

  • Singapore and its surrounding islands are ceded to the East India Company.
  • Sultan Hussein receives 33,200 Spanish dollars and a monthly allowance of 1,300 Spanish dollars for life.
  • The Temenggong gets a monthly stipend of 700 Spanish dollars in addition to a lump sum of 26,800 Spanish dollars.
  • Sultan Hussein and Temenggong agreed to maintain free trade.
  • They are forbidden to communicate with foreigners, except with the EIC's permission
Singapore is now a British colony!
