This was from the era when I was a teacher-in-charge of a performing arts CCA. It was a Guitar Club. There were a group of boys who, by some administrative quirk, had ended up in the CCA. They showed very little interest in music and nor were they interested in playing the guitar.
But because they were members of the Guitar Club, we had to engage them.
So while the main and assistant coaches were taking the main body, these "outliers" stayed with me. I could play the guitar and sing so we jammed and made some music, sometimes with cajón accompaniment.
The school even gave them an opportunity to perform in the canteen. As someone who loved performing, I was enthused by this. I told them about it and even gave them a name. They were to perform under the name "The Potentials".
On the day of the performance, almost all of them fled. There was no performance.
Later, I asked one of them why and he said, "Too many people". These rough and ready boys saw the canteen crowd and ran away.
It was a waste of...potential...
