Many years ago, I had a gay colleague. Once, I was in the toilet putting on my tie (the school required male teachers to wear a tie once a week) and he stood beside me.
From my peripheral vision, he was looking at me. I asked him what was the matter.
“Just watching you dress.” He said. That was a very 毛骨悚然 statement.
He was quite a touchy person. Eventually, I was so upset with his constant touches that I told him off. “Your orientation is your orientation.” I told him angrily. “Leave me alone.” He claimed that I misunderstood and that he was just trying to be friendly.
After he had transferred to another school, this person still texted me. He once messaged that he wanted to kiss me. I warned him that should he text me like this again, I would block him.
After years of not hearing from him, I learned that he had died of cancer. I felt sad. Even though his actions made me very uncomfortable, I can understand that he was just a lonely person, living in a society where homosexuality was seen as a perversion.
There were even people who wanted to keep a law that could jail gay men. It is good that such a law has been repealed. A civilised society should treat people with dignity, regardless of their sexual orientation.
May my former colleague be liberated from suffering.
