KOREAN HOSPITALITY

More than a decade ago, I joined some colleagues and students on an exchange trip to the Republic of Korea. The school was located in Suncheon (South Jeolla province).

We landed in Incheon, which is about 280km away. We would only visit Sucheon three days later, but the school decided to greet us the moment we landed.

The vice-principal of the school and another head of department were at the lounge waiting with a banner. It was about 11pm.

The two men had driven for hours to be here and would have to drive hours to go back. They only came to greet us with a banner and some conversation. If that is not hospitality, I don’t know what is!
