INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

In a school that I taught in some years ago, the principal chose a novel way to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March. He would pay for all female staff’s canteen meals on that day.

I overheard a female colleague saying in the staff room, “I can pay for my own meals.” The P probably meant well, but I felt it was not necessary.

Is it not ironic that a man is paying for an economically independent lady’s meal to mark an occasion celebrating women’s empowerment?
