COUNTERSTRIKE

As mentioned previously, I was conscripted into the NCC and reluctantly became a Teacher Officer. I did not like it when cadets saluted me and I also did not like it when they asked me for permission to carry on. Sometimes during training, I got bored and went to play basketball.

Thankfully my NCC colleagues were very understanding!

There was this one time when I had to bring some cadets to take part in a counterstrike competition with another school. We went to a venue where we were asked to stay downstairs. The other school was asked to go upstairs.

Now, even to this day, I have never played counterstrike. But before the competion, I went upstairs to do some “espionage” on the other school. Of course I introduced myself to the teacher in charge and said I wanted to take a look. The cadets from that school was busy strategising.

I went down and saw our cadets. They were busy relaxing. When the game started, it was a washout. Several of our cadets were killed in friendly fire. After the defeat, a cadet from our side said, “It’s just a game.”

Yes, it is “just” a game. But how do you do anything…is how you do everything.
